Old, discarded documents can pose an identity theft risk if they contain account numbers or Social Security numbers.
Southwest Bank will help area residents dispose of them safely next month at events it has dubbed “Shredfest.” Southwest, a subsidiary of Milwaukee-based Marshall & Ilsley Corp., will sponsor free shredding of documents.
The first two events will take place from 9 a.m. to noon Sept. 13 at the Southwest branch at 2301 South Kingshighway and at its West County office, 13205 Manchester Road.
The second set of events will be at the same time Sept. 27 at the O’Fallon, Mo., branch, 101 Laura K Drive, and at the South County branch, 3701 South Lindbergh Boulevard.
Cintas Service Partners will do the shredding. Postal inspectors will provide education on identity theft.
